WEST SIDE JR. HIGH OVERCROWDED
9th Grade photo of Miss Hammette's homeroom. Students
are standing along the blackboard
because there
were not enough chairs or desks. The largest classroom in the school
has 46 pupils
and the
average is about 40 pupils per class. Educators feel that the ideal
number would be about 30.
Standing are
left to right: Sammy Hardin, Louis Hayes, Bill Hathcote, Gary Holloway,
Jerry Hammonds,
Billy Henry,
George Harden, Shirley Hammond, and Marilyn Hockersmith. Second
row back is Robert
Hipp and in same row far right Charles Heinmiller. |

These three girls must share a locker because of the crowded
conditions. There are only 637 lockers
to serve all
the students. Discussing how to put the most into the smallest space
are Sandra Haupt,
Janice Henriksen, and
Judy Hicks

Student Overflow at West Side Junior High.
A record enrollment of over 1,300 students
taxed
facilities at the school to the fullest. Normal capacity for the
school is about 900. Homer
Berry,
principal, said that some of the problems in the above photos are
being corrected as
fast as possible, but even with that the school will remain crowded |
