Homan
TUPELO – Betty Imogene “Jean” Homan, 71, of
the Furrs community, died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011, at North Mississippi
Medical Center. She was born Oct. 31, 1940, in Monroe, Ark., to Faber
Joel Wilson and Annie Mae Ingram Wilson. She graduated from Little Rock
Central High School in 1968. She married Raymond Homan on Dec. 14, 1958,
and moved to North Mississippi in 1966. She worked at Sears for more
than 14 years in catalog sales and later at the service station. Later
she worked as a supervisor at Day-Brite Lighting. Her daily routine has
been reading the Daily Journal from the back to the front (her own way)
staying abreast of current happenings locally and nationwide. She was a
seasoned seamstress, enjoying embroidery, knitting and dress tailoring.
Mrs. Homan was a member of the International Brotherhood of
Electrical Workers. She was an active member of Chesterville Calvary
Baptist Church until this year when she entered Tupelo Nursing and Rehab
after becoming ill. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, watching
National Geographic and Animal Planet and fishing. She loved all of her
pets, especially Cricket and Tiny. She was a devoted wife, loving mother
and grandmother. Her greatest joy was spending time with her
grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Chesterville Calvary Baptist Church
with Bro. Wesley Stephens officiating. Private burial will be in Lee
Memorial Park. Holland Funeral Directors, Tupelo Chapel, is in charge of
the arrangements.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home and
from 1 p.m. to service time Sunday at the church.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Raymond Homan of Furrs; one
daughter, Annette Clemons (Casey) of Tupelo; daughter-in-law, Tonya
Homan of Memphis; two grandchildren, Rachel Homan and Zach Clemons, an
aunt, Nancy Jones of North Little Rock, Ark.; and a host of nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Brenda Weatherly;
and a son, Robert J. “Bob” Homan, on July 28, 2011.
Her grandson, Zach Clemons, will be honorary pallbearer.
